Since the tiny home is on a trailer then however you title and register the trailer without a home on it, or the trailer with a home on it, with the Department of Motor Vehicles is how it will be.
You might look at not registering it at all and just get a temporary move permit anytime you need to move it from one place to another. 
Unless it can qualify as a modular or mobile home in your state then it is unlikely that your municipality will ever qualify it as a permanent residence while on wheels. 

All of this is highly dependent on the laws, regulations and ordinances of your local city, county and state.

Hi Isaac and thanks for getting in touch. I am aware of the difficulty of Windham allowing Tiny Houses from knowing the owner of  Tiny Homes of Maine.

Unfortunately, Maine is a "Home Rule" state which means each municipality has the right to allow or disallow lots of things, basically they get to run their town without state intervention. There is a part of me that values that very much!

I've started working with Municipalities who are interested in having Tiny Houses in their towns rather than trying to work with towns who do not.

If I were you, I suppose I'd try to sell the lot in Windham, and look to purchase one in a town that you KNOW is open to Tiny House living (get that in writing) instead.

Probably not what you were hoping for in an answer, but seems like a good direction to go.

You might consider hosting some meetups in the area to introduce your community and what the plans for it are. This will give you an opportunity to answer questions, address concerns and meet some of the locals. You might consider personally inviting some of the community leaders in the area so that they can hear first hand the benefits that you expect your community to bring to the local area. Brian, Correct, the state will not issue a registration for a tiny house, or a trailer with  tiny house built on it. YOU CAN however, get a point to point permit to transport your tiny house one trip at a time. Also they are not issuing titles right now for Tiny Houses but it doesn't sound as if that is a problem for you right now. 

Bottom line, please check with the code official in the town you hope to live tiny in and get the specifics from him/her about what they are going to require IN WRITING.

I did not find any scientific studies on water usage in tiny homes, searching on the internet and in scientific research databases.

I do not know what other builders methods of water usage computation are, I will explain mine though.

1. I make a list of the individuals that will be occupying the home on a regular basis and some notes on their normal behaviors.

2. I factor in some assumptions based on human physiology.

3. I gather the water consumption of all the fixtures I am calculating for.

4. I build a spreadsheet to assist me in my calculations.

Some things that I find are typical with most people I have talked to about water use issues. 

-Most people bathe daily, water consumption can vary greatly. At my home our shower head uses 2.5 GPM (gallons per minute) and while my shower averages 8 minutes (8x2.5= 20 gallons of water used) my spouse takes an average of 17 minutes to shower and come out feeling clean and refreshed (17x2.5= 42.5 gallons) so our monthly water usages are considerably different (600 gallons vs. 1275 gallons)

-Most people use the restroom an average of 6-8 times per day at 2.5 gallons per flush that is 15-20 gallons per day.

-Clothes and dish washers differ wildly in water usage both from model to model and also based on the type of cycle selected.

-Handwashing dishes uses considerably less water than the comparable amount washed in a dishwasher, in my experience.

Our home of 3 uses about 6-10 thousand gallons of water per month where we live, a lot of it to water our garden and for bathing.

I am struggling to find any information on how to build a tiny home myself and get it certified. I love the idea of building myself because it will be exactly what I want and I will be in control of the budget. It seems like tiny houses began as a way to own a home outright, but now its this huge money maker for builders who charge crazy amounts.
